An apostille is an official page your state attaches to a document, such as a certified copy of your company papers. It confirms that the signature and seal on the document are real, so countries in the Apostille Convention need no extra embassy step. Without it, an office abroad may not accept your U.S. papers.
Choose a certified copy for use in the U.S. Choose the apostille when someone abroad asks for one.

Four common reasons you may need one.
Banks abroad may ask for it before opening your company's account.
When you open a branch, the local registry may want to see it.
Forming a local company that your U.S. business owns may need it.
Some partners abroad want it before they sign a contract with you.
Your documents
The Blugency Promise, three commitments with every document.
The state issues your documents for this order, so they carry a recent date.
If the state rejects our request, we correct it and send it again right away at no cost, including any new state fee.
If your package is lost on the way, we order new documents and deliver them at no cost to you.
The Apostille Convention has about 130 members, and apostilles work between them. Canada, China and Vietnam are among the recent ones. Thailand has joined, but apostilles apply there only from February 28, 2027. We confirm your country is covered before we order.
Then your papers need legalization instead of an apostille. Your state issues its own certificate, the U.S. Department of State may add another, and the country's embassy or consulate may ask for more. As of September 2026, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Qatar and Nigeria were not members. We quote the full process on a call.
It depends on your state. The state first issues your document, then adds the apostille, and Texas, for example, says a mailed apostille request can take up to 2 weeks. Courier time to your address comes after that.
No. States like California and Florida refuse photocopies, and Florida does not let notaries certify copies of public records such as your formation documents. The apostille must come from the state holding your record, so we order a certified copy there first.
No. It confirms only who signed or sealed the document, and in what role. It says nothing about whether the content is correct.
Our apostille service is $149, and a certified copy on its own is $49. The state fees for your document are added to your total before you pay. They are your state's own fees, including its processing fee where it charges one, and choosing your state on the price card shows your exact total. Courier delivery is part of the apostille price. If the state charges more than your total shows, we pay the difference.
No. An apostille has no end date and cannot be refused only because of its age. But whoever receives it can still ask for a recent document, so check how recent yours must be before you order.
Only in states that issue electronic apostilles, called e-Apostilles. An e-Apostille is just as valid as paper, and every member country must accept it. When yours is on paper, we ship the original and keep a scan in your dashboard as a preview, not a replacement.
Not as a standard order, because it is not a state record. It must be signed before a notary of the state that will add the apostille, and the apostille then covers the notary's certificate, not the agreement itself. New York also asks for a County Clerk step first. We can explain the steps for your state.
Federal papers, such as an IRS certification of U.S. tax residency, are apostilled by the U.S. Department of State, not by your state. It charges $20 per document and needs up to 5 weeks for mailed requests. The paper must carry the official's original signature and seal, and a notary stamp makes it invalid. Show it to us first, and we will tell you if it qualifies.
