7 Tax Mistakes U.S. Business Owners Make (And How to Avoid Them)
The 1099-NEC threshold moved to $2,000, plenty of published guidance still says $600, and that is only the fourth item on this list.
We apply for your sales tax permit where your company must register, then fill in the certificates your suppliers need.

Pick your state to see your total.

A resale certificate is a document you give a supplier when you buy products to sell again. It shows your sales tax permit number, so your company needs the permit first. Without the certificate, your supplier must charge you sales tax on those products, as it would for any shopper.
Each state you register in expects its own sales tax returns, even when you sell nothing there. With Several States, you register in one order, and only where you must.

Any one of these can make a permit necessary.
You buy goods to resell and want them free of sales tax.
Most states require registration once your sales there pass $100,000 a year.
Marketplaces collect tax in many states, yet some states still want your own permit.
Some states require a permit even to sell at a single event.
Show us how you sell. We complete the forms for each state.

The Blugency Promise, three commitments with every resale certificate.
If a state you picked does not need a permit from you, we refund what you paid for it.
If a state rejects your application, we correct it and refile right away at no cost, including any new state fee.
For 12 months after purchase, if a supplier asks for a different certificate form, we fill it in at no extra cost.
Register where your company has a physical presence or passes a state's sales threshold. Wyoming, for example, says forming a company there does not by itself mean it needs a Wyoming sales tax license.
It depends on how much you sell into each state. Since a 2018 U.S. Supreme Court decision, a state can require sellers with no physical presence there to collect its sales tax. Thresholds differ, for example $500,000 a year in California and Texas, and $250,000 a year in Alabama and Mississippi.
Yes. The Streamlined Sales Tax system even accepts foreign sellers with no EIN, ITIN or U.S. address. If your company has a U.S. address, Streamlined requires its EIN. States outside Streamlined use their own forms, and we tell you if one needs more details from you.
Then some states may not ask you for a permit. Texas, for example, does not require one from a seller with no physical presence in Texas who sells only through marketplaces that collect the tax, and Arizona has a similar rule. We check this rule for each of your states.
No. Registering starts a filing schedule, and a return is due every period even when you owe $0. Late returns cost money, for example at least $50 per late return in Florida and $50 per late report in Texas. So we register your company only where it must register.
Streamlined itself charges nothing, but some states charge their own registration fee. That fee is the state's own, including its processing fee where it charges one, and choosing your state on the price card shows your exact total. Our fee is for our work, from checking your states to preparing your application and certificates.
Not always. The Streamlined form is accepted in all its member states, and the multistate form in about 36 states. The Multistate Tax Commission, which publishes that form, says it cannot guarantee that any state will accept the form.
No. It covers only products you plan to resell. In Texas, the resale must also happen within the U.S. The multistate form warns that misuse can lead to fines, prison or the loss of the right to issue certificates.
Each state sets its own timing. Nevada says online applicants get a permit number within 24 hours, while Texas asks you to allow 2 to 3 weeks. Most Streamlined states send registration details within 15 business days. We do not sell a rush option for this service.
In some states, yes. Florida's annual resale certificate expires every December 31, and in Michigan a certificate that covers repeat purchases lasts up to 4 years. Permits in Indiana and Wisconsin must also be renewed every 2 years.
