Why Your Brand Name Needs Trademark Protection Before You Launch
Your LLC filing does not stop a competitor from using your name. Here is what a federal trademark gives you, and why filing before launch wins.
Your brand name, with or without your logo, filed with the USPTO, the U.S. trademark office, wherever you live.

A trademark is any word, phrase, symbol or design that identifies your goods or services. It is how customers recognize your brand and tell it apart from competitors. Using it gives you rights only where you sell, while a USPTO registration covers the entire United States and its territories.
Name protects your brand name in any style. Name and Logo also protects your logo with a second filing, for $100 more plus its own USPTO fee.

What changes for your brand once it is registered.
In federal court, your registration proves the trademark is yours.
Your trademark is listed in the USPTO database that others search for similar brands.
Record your registration with U.S. Customs, which can stop imports that copy your brand.
Your U.S. registration can help you register the same brand abroad.
You bring the brand. We prepare, file and follow up.

If our search finds a close match, you see the details and choose whether we file.
If a USPTO letter needs more than a correction, you approve the price before we start.
Your dashboard shows the name of the attorney who signs your application.
Yes. The USPTO requires an attorney licensed in the U.S. if you live abroad or your company is run from abroad. For a company, the USPTO looks at where its leaders run it, not at a registered agent address used for legal mail. Every application we prepare is signed and filed by such an attorney, so this is already part of your price.
The most common reason is a similar trademark that already exists for related goods or services. The two do not need to be identical, only similar in look, sound or meaning. A name that simply describes what you sell is refused too, while invented or unexpected names are stronger. We check for both risks before we file.
As of August 10, 2026, the USPTO's averages were 4.2 months from filing to a first review and 9.7 months to a final result, registered or not. These numbers change, so we share the latest ones when you file. Filings made before sales begin take longer, because use must be shown first. No one can promise an exact date.
Yes, you can file based on your plan to use the trademark. It can register once you prove real use in a later filing, the Statement of Use. You have 6 months to file it after the USPTO's approval letter, the Notice of Allowance, or up to 36 months with extensions at $125 per class each. We watch these dates and file it once you are selling, for $99 plus the USPTO fee of $150 per class.
One for each group of goods or services you sell under the brand. For example, golf shirts, dress shirts and t-shirts share one class, while a t-shirt printing service is a second one. Your protection is tied to the goods and services named in your filing. The USPTO charges $350 per class, and adding classes does not change our fee.
It is a letter from the USPTO that lists problems with your trademark or your application. You have 3 months to answer, or 6 months with one extension for $125, and a missed deadline ends the application. Your attorney answers letters that ask for corrections at no extra cost. If a letter raises a legal objection, we explain your options and the cost of a reply first.
No. It is valid in the U.S. only. For protection abroad, you must apply in each country or region you choose, and one international application can cover several of them.
Only after the USPTO registers your trademark, and only for the goods or services listed in the registration. Until then, you can use TM for goods or SM for services, even before you file.
File with the USPTO between the 5th and 6th year after registration, then between the 9th and 10th year and every 10 years after that. Today the fees are $325 per class for the first filing and $650 per class for each later renewal. If a deadline and its grace period of 6 months pass, the registration is canceled. We send you a reminder before each one is due.
Check before you pay. Some companies send letters that look official, even fake office actions that usually demand a reply within 24 to 72 hours and fees far above the USPTO's. Every real USPTO letter also appears in your filing's public record on the USPTO website, and real USPTO emails end in @uspto.gov. Forward any letter to us and we will check it against that record.
